I think the biggest counter to the big conspiracy is the question: What do the conspirators gain? People will froth at the mouth and mention Iraq and Oil, but big government probably has much easier ways to trick the public into a war they want.
Oh the the Lusitania? Our government and media had been heavily infiltrated by British agents, who's mission was to sway the US into war. I forgot the agents name, but Wilson had a very good British friends, who probably gave him advice on policy, that was a British intelligence agent.
Like I said - there's much easier ways to get a country into war, then and now.
