| Ok, this is moot. They're NOT trading him. He puts asses in the seats. They could go 40 games under .500, and people would still show up just to see him. It's just how it is. Also, Kobe's contract, while huge, isn't terrible. It's a very tradeable contract. Also, every team takes terrible guys in what are called "expiring contracts". They pick up these guys merely to trade them to even out the salary cap. This is merely an example, but if the Pau Gasol trade happened with the Bulls, they would of sent Deng and a slew of other guys, but they'd use PJ Brown's god awful contract to make it work.
So, it's not hard to make salaries work, but the trade won't happen simply because of what he's worth from a marketing perspective.
