Its clear from his gamespot comments that Sigils team will be fully merged with SOE eventually and moved to other MMOs as needed. They're probably only keeping it sorta seperate right now because of things like lease obligations and finding room at the other SOE studios. |
That is exactly how I see it. While this is good news for people who play VG because they will still keep the power on to the servers, how can they justify spending big bucks on it? My guess is that they will have 2 or 3 servers for the real fans but will not market it like they do with EQ2, Gods and Heroes, or the yet to be named projects.
Plus, they get some Developers to provide maintenance support for VG and their old products. This will free the current staff to work on new projects. When I worked in engineering for Sybase our Team wanted to work on the new projects. We used some of our Consultants and new hires to work on bug fixes for the old engine.
