That's an advertising deal set and done, long before VW (lacking a hollywood lobby) could do anything about it. If they put out some blurb about not being associated with war/violence, it was only to save face. |
Actually, if you read the leaked script, it has nothing to do with him 'getting owned'. It has to do with the fact that Spike tells him he is a little 'out of date' and asks him if he can get with the times, so Bumblebee scans a new Camaro and changes.
He does get owned, but its not the reson for his rebuild. He gets owned after that. If you want the leaked script, PM me, I will be more than glad to Email it to you.
As for the VW thing, it is true that he is not a Bug because of VW's Anti-war ideas.
That also goes for why Jazz is not a Porsche. VW had their hands in that. So, why not make it simple since 2 of the other Autobots were GM products... just make the 2 sports cars 2 more GM products.
I will admit, M. Bay does love using GM, but VW and Porsche were attempted for the movie.
