Anyone looking for a good sci-fi series would do well to check out
The Surrogates. It's a five issue mini-series from '05/'06, but I just got around to reading it tonight. No superheroes here, more like William Gibson or Philip K. Dick. It's about a not-too-distant future where humans have surrogate machines that they use in place of their own bodies. Sort of like taking the idea of internet identities one rather large step forward and into the real world.
There's a mystery involving some 'killings,' a bit of noirish intrigue (but sadly not enough of that--I wish they'd gotten a little more inspiration from Richard K. Morgan), and enough action to keep the talky bits interesting. It'd make a great movie imo, and given the amount of positive reviews the series got I wouldn't be surprised to see it happen.
At any rate, I highly recommend it. I've been reading an asston of comics lately and this is one of the very few that stood out from the rest.
