The fact that they've been doing their thing for decades is probably the answer. When they started using computers in the process, the Mac would have been the obvious choice (along with Amiga/Atari ST for music). Odds are, someone like that isn't going to suddenly get up one day and decide to switch to a PC instead even when the technical gap was closed. About the only limitation of the PC (pre-Vista anyway) is that you can't just go buy a 4GB+ machine off the shelf like you can with a Mac. Just remember to bring lube for when the sales guy is quoting a price. ^^

LG.Philips makes all(?) of Apple's panels, Apple just makes the case and backlight. LG supplies Sony, HP, etc. at 23", and Dell at 30". Maybe Dell at 20.1", but that's up for debate at the moment, as some people have recently reported getting an inferior Samsung panel instead.
