A friend of mine really wanted to take a horde of orks on foot with screens, hearkening back to the really old 40k editions. Anymore he just gets smoked before he gets into charge range. If he tries to go trukk heavy, his trucks just get smoked and he ends up having to slog it (I so hate the new results for vehicle wrecks). I usually shoot his transports, pick off whatever I think is a high priority, then I assault his HQ/assault troops before he can assault me. I actually quit taking a Bloodthirster against him after I wiped out his Boss with nobz in mega armour after 1 turn when charging and he didn't get any attacks back. He just started putting his figures up after that, he didn't even finish the game. Instakills from a S8 daemon on his multiwound T4 models with no saves...I was half elated it worked so well, and half angry I managed to piss him off doing it.
Orks need love, thats all I can say.
- Need better vehicles, sad looted ones are often better choices
- They have some sad initiative, even with waaagh its what, Ini 4 for most orks? Most armies have that at least on their basic troops.
- They just aren't hard enough in CC IMO.
Burna boys have kicked my ass on occasion, nobz with power klaws own. Only time I've had my chaos force wiped by orks, was a low-point battle where the guy had a line of dreads/killer kans screening with assault troops in trukks behind them. Also, a mekianik with that shield generator behind them. So he just advanced, I only managed to immobilize one dread due to the shield glancing BS, and once he was in charge range his trukks sped around into the open and they jumped out and charged. Dreads/KK's followed behind and mopped up. Was painful, but fun I suppose.
Orks do deserve better IMO. And I'm beyond tired of all the SM/CSM players, at one time those armies accounted for like 60%-70% of our total sales, I started chaos back with Rogue Trader back before most people had even heard of GW. Man, I still have CSM's with MM's and one with a conversion beamer. /cry
I do have a Blood Slaughterer I picked up back in the day (93 or 94 iirc), I really wish I had bought more than one. I thought the wheels looked gay, so I chopped the axles off and put it on some tracks from the rapier laser destroyer thing. If I had a digi camera I'd go take a pic, even though I still need to base and paint it (hesitant due to lack of painting skills).
One of these things:
