I didn't know anyone playing Everquest when I first bought it.
(or hell, even WoW, since I bought on launch day)
You really shouldn't let that stop you. "Virtual friends" are better for playing "virtual games" together anyways, in my experience, when I play wow with my RL friends, I always just get frusterated with how much they suck
