You can hardly survive a proper setup gate camp, but you can always easily avoid getting into one.
You can counter ECM and you can mess with other ship parts. A 1 vs 4 is possible to win if you have the right setup. I won versus 4 ravens before with my nosadomi and it wasn't even particularly hard.
I have also lost versus a single one before=)
A lot comes down to fitting and what you expect your opponent to use for mods.
Winning 1 vs 1to4 is not to uncommon. Experience and fitting sp and all the other stuff play in to much. Not to mention strategy!
