The biggest misconception in my eyes came from 3-4 years ago when they decided to mention "The Vision". From that point on, the expectation was to implement every single detail of The Vision to the letter with little regard to any developments of the 2nd gen games. Despite the fact that devs admit that in retrospect they had made mistakes when developing The Vision, people still expected it. I dont recall the dev quotes from day 1 of Vanguard, but i do know that for the 2 years i've been following beta closely, the devs have been touting "A Vision" not "The Vision". They have A Vision for Vanguard that isnt The Vision. unfortunately, this is creating huge disconnect between expectations and delivery.
*shrugs* i've been over it since day one and personally dont understand people that have such an e-peen hard-on for a return to EQ. But to each their own. I just hope they can handle the fact that MMOs have progressed to use mechanics that make gameplay more efficient at the cost of tedium. Unforunately defining tedium is a whole nother debate that i'd rather not get into.
