Answering some of the questions people have asked. If you're sitting at 7 mil skillpoints and have nothing to do, chances are you aren't interacting with anyone outside of missions. Interacting is a big part of this game, whether it be blowing the crap out of someone or forming a group of friends to mine/manufacture or go out and have some fun pvp'ing. The best thing in this game that's happened to me is joining a good small group of pvp-oriented pilots with a JC in lowsec for empire and an alliance base in 0.0 for making money.
As for the larger "good alliances" there's really nothing better about them than any smaller corp. No, you can't go out and raid for a while like in wow and expect to get in. For instance, if I really wanted to I could get into ASCN right now, just because I know who I could ask, I have a decent skill setup, but more importantly, I can follow orders, have a good reputation and outstanding real pvp experience (not virtual SP crap) BoB, on the other hand, are a shitload of elitist pricks
Aka, you can join by invite only, no requirements are really listed and you shouldn't expect to be able to get in. There are alot of corps like the first two.
Just a quick example, in my alliance we have 4-5 member corps, my particular corp is the dedicated pvp wing. While the more industry-oriented or much older more casual pvp/miner protection-oriented corps in the alliance have slightly selective open-door recruitment policies, CDSN is fairly exclusive: IE: Don't expect to apply at the office and get accepted. Fight us in a battle first, be respectable and a good sport, exhibit some skill, and prove you're a decent individual and then inquire and we'll likely consider you.
