Depends, if you play casually and are curious Eve can be ok, or if you are very much in trade & industry playing alone is an option. Eve can be a very "zen" game to play in either case. Trade & Industry is a very interesting part of Eve, the other one being politics & alliance warfare, being alone is not an option for this.
