Really liked the series. Tarrant is the second/third best anti-hero I've read to date(behind Sandor Clegane and maybe Jaime Lannister in I&F). I liked the characterization of the "gods" and how magic worked.

I'm a sucker for books where the gods are not larger than life, like Weis and Hickman's Rose of the Prophet series, or any of David Edding's trilogies.

If you liked Friedman's writing style I'd suggest checking out The Madness Season. Only other book of hers I've read and I enjoyed it. Sci Fi and pretty interesting.
