Great first post because it is an issue I feel the same way about.

Like many on this board I come from a pretty hardcore EQ raiding background, but unlike many I didn't switch to wow until march this year. And let me tell you joining a top guild now is a real pain in the ass despite playing nearly 8 hours a day, with 100% availablity.

I got the point where I had all the best items you could get without raiding then looked to join a raiding guild figuring it wouldn't take too long to equip me up to decent standards just taking the rotting gear.

There wasn't much interest at that point because if you didnt have tier 1 at minimum you weren't good enough for top guilds. Considering how lackluster tier 1 is over the right mix of pvp1/heroism/defense gear for wars this seemed to be a poor argument against recruiting someone, not inviting them to guild but just a couple raids and see how they play.

But now with server transfers it became impossible to join a top guild because they're flooded with apps in tier 2. It seems to me that people ready to jump ship and leave their guild after they've gotten their thunderfuries, full wrath are not the people a guild should be looking for. And it goes against my sense of right and wrong to join a guild to gear up with the intent to leave.

So instead of fighting naxx I'm stuck pvping to field marshall for better dps gear, fighting nef with a guild that hasn't beat him. And I can tell you from the wars in my guild that having tier 2 armor does not make you good. With my assorted blues and a couple purples I can offtank just fine and outdps the warriors wielding Sulfuras.

So instead to join one of these guilds I've been preparing to have my Dranei shaman be one of the top shamans on the server, buying the best AH gear, getting mats for jewel crafting set, ect. It seems that without joining a new server farther behind in progress this is the only way to catch up to the curve. It is just a shame that atm I'm reading about Naxx, instead of killing in it.

I'm curious why do top guilds feel the need to focus on gear requirements as one barrier instead of being willing to give someone a shot, don't make him a member if he sucks, but try the person out in some Aq20's, ZGs and see if the attitude works for you. Because in my case I figure I'm what top guilds are looking for, pretty skilled, hate drama, quiet during raids, friendly while grouping, and 95% raid attendance during the worst time of the year for my play time but instead Im not even given a shot because I don't have gear that top guilds are trying to replace atm.
