Manhunter was better for a lot of reasons but a big one was that Joan Allen was so much better than Emily Watson as the blind chick. Not only that but I always thought Mann's Hannibal Lector (played by the same dude that plays John Langrish the theater promoter in Deadwood) was a lot better than Anthony Hopkins, if only because he was more faithful to the book.
