| Going to see it in about an hour. I hope it lives up to both the TV series, which I watched every single episode of in the 80s, and Mann's previous films... but that's a tall order right there. Also, it's disappointing that both Edward James Olmos (Castillo on TV) and Jan Hammer (wrote the theme song--which isn't used in the movie at all--and a lot of the other music for the show) declined to do the movie.
And yea, I hate Farrell too.
Edit -- I agree with benbadman, it's somewhere between Collateral and Heat. Pacing is a little off, some stuff takes up way too much screen time, and it lacks exposition in other areas, making it feel like a 2h20m movie where not a whole lot really happens. It doesn't really have that much of a Miami Vice the show vibe either. Mann is still second to none when it comes to filming a shootout though, and that more than makes up for any shortcomings in the movie.
8/10
