We were never actually able to split his dogs from him technically. We did "split" them, but it was the dogs while he wasn't aggro. We had no idea how the encounter worked at the time and tried killing the dogs - when it got to the point where it heals back to full it aggroed golemagg onto us.
Is this about the wrath bonus? I won't say anymore but I've seen the posts on the forums. Hard to believe that's actually true though.
Edit: And no, we wouldn't exploit that. We can't even if we wanted to, we're all enjoying the game and would rather not have our accounts banned.
