situational equip sucks and you fucking know it. Woohoo, let's see... Scholomance has Demons, undead, humanoids and dragonkin in it, so everyone bring 4 different weapons (8 if you dual wield) |
Is than any different than carrying around multiple resist gears? And I'm not talking about WoW - I'm talking about a non-existant MMO.
Look at a CCG - there really isn't mudflation - yet folks keep buying new sets. What you get are new ways to fight. You need to structure a non-mudflating MMO the same way.
Look at all the current ways to ccin WoW: banish, MC, sheep, the chain-demon thing locks do, entangling roots - Currently they're divided amongst classes and are COMPLETELY SITUATIONAL (well sheep tends to be more generally useful - but would you rather have a lock or a mage in DM? Banish ftw) - if you go a skill-based system each of those things could be a seperate drop - this is the same deal as the swords - having different spells/swords/armor drop each type being more or less appropriate to whatever encounter you're having.
So I'd say _understand this_ situational equipment/spells/swords = good. Mudflation != progress.
