There's nothing wrong with the book. It's not Crime & Punishment, nor is it meant to be. It's an entertaining read, not meant to be fulfilling or sustaining.
It's mental popcorn.

There's plenty wrong, as I and others have pointed out, with the writing style, his "facts", and his claims that the book is actually much more than just a fiction popcorn book due to it's "accuracy" on facts and history.

For as many God-haters as there are on this board, I'm surprised more people aren't more excited at the "possibility" of some of this being true.
It's just a book, right? That's what the Romans said 2000 years ago.

I think it's a reflection that there's a fair number of intelligent people on this board who can see that the book is just plain shitty, despite the fact that it may agree with their opinions on the Catholic church and all that. I'm all for exposing all the terrible things that the Church has done in the name of god in the past couple millenia. I just don't want my views to be associated with this steaming pile.
But yeah, when I talk about the book with friends or other people, a lot of times it's obvious they cling to it because it agrees with their worldview, and they get very defensive when I go after it, and they're often confused by that since otherwise I agree with them.
