And there it is. Why do people farm gold in WoW? List out the reasons, and then see what the devs could to make it go away:
1) Repair bills. OK, institute a better death penalty. My plan would be 10 minute rezz sickness that is uncurable, and the sickness is totally debilitating, as in you are barely functional for those ten minutes. Or make the repair bots not cost money, given the cost to build them. Problem solved.
2) Blues and purples on the AH. Make the shit NO DROP. Done.
3) Potions. Make the alchemy combine produce a stack of 20 or make the materials more commonly found. Spending 4 hours of farming herbs for 10 potions is retarded.
Basically, scrap repair costs as your death penalty, institute a rezz sickness that matters, and make every blue and better item NO DROP.
But think about that for a second. Such a system would work great in a land where PVE ruled the roost, but omfgz0rz, what about zergfest PVP? The rezz thing would shine an even brighter light on all the things wrong with WoW PVP. Can't have that, so we'll stick to supporting 10% of China's economy.
