Wait, so Microsoft is anticipating a drawn-out trench battle with Sony with the 360/PS3 and so it makes sense for them to abandon their only active venture in MMOG space? The same Microsoft that reconfigured every atom of their organization when they retooled to confront the challenge from Netscape and the web? Any battle with Sony/PS3 would be fought WITHIN the mmorpg space, and that doesn't involve divesting from products that have even a niche appeal, unless that product is grossly deficient in some fashion.

I realize some of you guys are more than prepared to suspend critical thinking to accomodate a concept you've invested so much of yourselves in, but c'mon, MS spent the better part of 2005 just getting an FFXI client for the 360.

It WILL be an interesting E3. There's over 40 MMORPG titles strutting their shit in LA next week and this announcement is like some highschool quarterback breaking up with his date a week before prom. It could turn out to be the most savvy manipulation of the gaming press in industry history, though.

Smed, which booth with Vanguard be presented in? SOE or MS?
