| Watched a bit of an episode here and there, and thought the show was godawful. Like, high production values and such, but awful.
The main dude, the one all the chicks like, doesn't seem to have any fucking depth of character. Every picture I see of him, and every scene he's in, he's got that same kind of scowl/serious look on his face. He always talks in this annoying, semi-monotone (and again really serious) voice.
And the implausibility of the show really gets to me. I caught an episode, or rather the end of an episode where they were going to break out by getting into the sewer or something like that. The dumb part was that this little area/floor drain in some storage room just happened to have like a 24" diameter massive forged steel pipe draining it. That's just fucking dumb. I guess it's the plumber/pipe fitter in me, but that totally insulted my intelligence (it would be 3" or 4" max).
Note for all script writers (including you, Stephen King): IT IS FUCKING IMPOSSIBLE TO BREAK OUT OF PRETTY MUCH ANYWHERE USING A BUILDING'S SEWER SYSTEM. STOP USING THIS SHITTY, STUPID IDEA TO GET AROUND ACTUALLY THINKING CREATIVELY FOR ONCE. The pipes first of all are simply too small (an apartment building with 500+ suites would maybe have a 12" sanitary main). Second, even if they were huge like they always seem to be in movies/tv shows, you'd be dead within a few minutes if you tried to escape through one. Ever notice under your kitchen sink that little "p-trap"? How about if you look at a toilet from the side? You'll see somethign similar on most that's built into the toilet. Those are designed so that there is ALWAYS a 1" or more water seal, and the whole idea behind plumbing is preserving that seal. Because if you don't, sewer gas comes spewing out and will kill the building's occupants. Hydrogen sulfide, carbon monoxide, you name it, it's all down there. Puking a la Tim Robbins is the least of your fucking worries in a sewer pipe.
Another thing that bugged me about a bit of an episode I saw: the whole "Oh you're a structural engineer? Help me build a card house for my wife" plot line of one of the episodes. Totally stupid, totally forced, and totally jacked from Shawshank (help the warden in return for special treatment).
The more I think about it, the more this show pisses me off. |
