PvP is mostly about your numbers vs. theirs, your ship + setup vs. theirs and your knowledge and experience, your first engagement you'll be shaking like a leaf because there's actually risk vs. reward. I forgot to activate a couple of my modules because I was soiling myself.

Someone with a lot of SP doesn't usually beat you because they have more SP, it's because they know the tricks and aren't as nervous as a neglected puppy.

Most high SP players have their skills spread out between different ship types, so provided you specialize you can become competent pretty quickly.

The main problem is getting all of the Learning skills and fitting skills done, I'd recommend getting all your learning skills to 3 or 4 and do some "fun" skills before you commit to the game and go all the way to advanced learning skills. Fitting skills (Engineering, Electronics, Weapon Upgrades, etc.) are also an utter cunt but once you've finished them you're golden.

edit: hadn't refreshed in a while, bugger it.
