I have tons of real information, first hand. I know quite a few active polygamists, and our entire state (especially the southern part where I live) is well vested in what our neighbors an hour to the east do.
The calendar system they had was accurate. There have been a few polygamists that have worked at my office here, and we asked how it works. Basically, the wives sign up for the days they want. The sister-wife that was here said that usually new wives sign up for alot of days, and that relieves the sex workload from the rest. She seemed glad that the new, younger wives took up more of the sexual time.
As far as orgies go - the show big love was pretty inaccurate in one aspect - most polygamists are HIDEIOUSLY ugly, not only because they dress like they are from the 1890's, but the communities are so closed and have such a lack of genetic diversity that their facial features and such become all washed out, and you start to get ALOT of genetic abnormalities (six fingers, down syndrome, huge hands...). Make no mistake, polygamists are usually strange looking people, both genetically, and because of their style of dress. The men all wear longsleeve, collared shirts, tucked in, and long pants (tight pants) 365 days a year. And the women all wear the dresses that are homemade and look like what pioneers wore 200 years ago. Also, they wear the mormon "garments" under their clothes, the famous magic mormon underwear... only theirs arent short sleeved and legged like normal mormons, theirs go to the wrists and ankles, ala they can never show skin other than their hands or faces/necks. Oh, and the men all wear awesome nike basketball shoes and have awesome cellphones clipped to their belts.
Also, the blond wife (played by chloe whatever), she had the big "wave" hairdo in the front and the braids in the back... thats how ALL the women wear their hair, its quite hideous. Also, the old fashioned clothing is the norm. Mind you - Bill Paxtons family is NOT typical, most polygamists live out on the "compounds" or cities where its just them... remember the scene with the 20 hideous wives washing the plane? thats what their life really is. Rarely do practicing polygamists enter the mainstream. And they'd NEVER say fuck.
Did anyone else hear bill paxtons character on the phone say "What the H!" hahahaha... yeah...
