Season two has been such a let down. It's agonizingly slow, but worst of all, it's turned into a fluffy soap opera instead of a character driven thriller/adventure. The 'mythology' and 'mystery' of season two have been cheaply developed and presented as little more than gimmicks. They're shaped more towards the next episodes' preview than they are for plot development. Season one had its dull moments, but even at its worst, it was better than the direction this season is taking.

The character react to the island and its events as if they were characters from days of our lives. Sure, Eko is great; but he needs to be since they've removed Locke's mystical mojo. How much more can they reveal with the flashbacks too? We now know about these characters. We know the shocking revelations of their past. They're going to have to reveal even 'greater revelations' about these characters if they stick with the flashback method. I can't wait till they start showing flashbacks from their previous lives, how being re-incarnated from who they were hundreds of years ago has shaped their pysche today. I simply don't see how they can maintain the flashback/present island method. It's just not interesting anymore. Most of the flashbacks this season have already been implied through the character's original flashbacks and or island chit-chat. We don't need half a show wasted on visuals that reveal nothing about the character.

Ana Lucia is quite possibly the biggest slap in the face yet to the viewer. Due in large part to the actress' inability to play a character different from SWAT and Blue Crush (the same in your face, tuff latino chick.) It's as if the writers are attempting to compensate for a bad character by bringing out more and more 'shocking' backgrounds so that we'll overlook her one punch knock outs and horrid acting.

"Awww she was holding the two kids at the funeral."
"Awww she cried on day 40."
"Awww she was a loyal public servant who got shot."
"Awww she lost a baby when she got shot."

Seriously, straight from a damn soap opera. What is next? Did Ana Lucia attempt to die for the sins of humanity but was rejected by God? AWWWW! Sympathy for her inability to show a facial expression beyond the scowl of disdain. Fortunately, with her recent DUI and the warrents issued for failing to appear in court (along with possible probation violations in LA,) she may have to serve some jail time -- thus, not only putting bad PR on ABC/Lost, but interfering with production.

Anyway, they lost a key writing figure from season one. Not only in terms of individual plots, but also in terms of providing feedback during the brainstorming process. Personally, I enjoyed his episodes (such as Walkabout where we find Locke was paralyzed.) I don't know what else has changed over there but the quality of this season has gone down the drain. There are production mistakes every episode (Anyone catch the horse trainer's hand at the end of the last episode?) Script mistakes every episode where the writers tell fans to not take what they saw as official canon; and a overwhemling sense of not knowing where to take this show.

So here's to season one being the best show I've seen in several years. As for season 2; Downloads and DVDs from now on. I'm just not interested enough to watch it on ABC anymore.
