Valve Bought the rights to Dod before it reached a 1.0 release,I think they bought it in beta 3.1 or something.If anyone played it back then,which I doubt either of you have,they would recall that it was quite a bit different than when it got it's first offical release as DoD 1.0 which by that point was firmly a Valve release.
At best the original Mod was a basic template.
CS on the other hand was a firmly established game,though it's most successful version was again a version introduced and maintained by Valve.
I pre-loaded DoD have not had a chance to play it yet,though I hear it's a bit different than 1.3 or whatever the last version was for HL1 Engine.Some say for the better,more say for the worst,same basic opinions as CS:S source.
Old School DoD players want to pretend they are badass like they are in a small group of people that discovered the game or something,forgetting that hundreds of thousands played it.And so they put the new version down,much like CS 1.6 players.
Though this rhetoric is common amongst all genres of online gaming I suppose.
