| The ending sequence of Requiem For a Dream gets my vote for the most intense and powerful sequence ever. More than half of my female friends can't even sit through it; they cover their eyes and run away, or start weaping uncontrollably. Aronofsky's directing is pure genius, and accompanied by the incredibly intense music of Kronos Quartet -- truly phenominal work.
The execution of William Wallace's wife in Braveheart... Hell, the execution of William Wallace himself wasn't as shocking.
The scene in Chasing Amy where Holden confesses his love for Alyssa in the car, then she runs out and tells him off in the pouring rain, then runs back into his arms. Also, the scene where Holden asks Alyssa and Banky to have a threesome, and Alyssa cries as she responds.
The scene where Lester is shot in American Beauty.
There are more...
