Zircon. Used to work for Home Depot, so I'd recommend them. They make some pretty nice gadgets.
Its not so much you got fucked by the stud finder, but by the brand. As far as I know (and don't know if they still do), Stanley started outsourcing their product assembly to Korea and other countries, and now half (or more) of what they make is complete junk.
Get your money back? If you don't have the receipt anymore, see if a Home Depot or Lowe's near you sells it, and try to get a refund there. Sometimes its a store credit deal, but at least its something.
