Actually, I do know how to use search comments. I even had in my search comments, in Japanese, that I was looking for group, that I used food (MAJOR importance), and how long I could stay. I am not a newb with FFxi, I tried to play it for a longtime because I still think it's an excellent game with only a few flaws.
And getting lectured by a 31 *PALADIN* about how easy it is to find groups when I'm level 40 and have 3 other classes at 30+ is comical at best, and I was this level almost four weeks ago at this point....
What you *are* correct about, though..yes, there are way too many Dark Knights. And DRK doesn't even hit its stride until level 59, that's why I gave it 3 days of waiting while I browsed the Net, watched TV, downloaded etc.
Why? Because xp is hell in that game without the perfect group. You have 6 slots. You want a White Mage, at least one, up until level 41, when using Red Mages becomes viable for main healer.
There are three tank classes, Paladin, Warrior, Ninja. Most people prefer Paladins, the more knowledgeable ones will take a Ninja, a Warrior is 3rd preference.
3rd, you want a Bard. You really really really want a Bard. They're almost as overpowered here as they are in EQ, 'cept they can't solo. If no Bard, then get a redmage for utility.
Then you come to dps.....3 slots.
And who to choose? Thief (with Fuidama, they rock), Dark Knight, Dragoon (which wtf pwns Darks til level 59), Warriors with Great Axe, Black Mages, Samurais, Summoners (well played ones with Avatars are incredible).
Even this wouldn't be horrendous if the xp range was bigger. If the group varies by more then a few levels between highest and median (since xp is based 90-99% on what a mob cons to the highest lvl in group), which is the *real* killer.
With so many main jobs and subjobs, players are scattered ALL over the spectrum in terms of availability. I'd look for a Paladin to try and start my own group, and there'd be a whopping 3 in primetime in my "range"...all grouped of course.
Sometimes, a level cap of 75 is a problem

And groups is one.
Que serah...
