So we finally got the health problem (mostly) solved, by having a compassionate Certified Nurse Midwife prescribe some Vistaril (which has a side-effect as a muscle relaxant) for "Braxton Hicks" pains. Ah, America, where you have to lie to get the help you need.

I feel pretty good, actually, because I follow my ideals and am happy. For the record, I now have two jobs and work 7 days a week, to ensure we're doing okay. One job I hate, but pays more, and one job I love, which pays less. Can't win 'em all. And fortunately, she shares my ideals, so she understands that sometimes we will suffer; but she wouldn't want to marry someone who would willingly subject themselves to working a shit job, being unhappy, for the sake of materialism and money. She knew what she was getting in to. And, I don't have to provide for her, because I don't buy in to that whole "man provides, woman serves" dogshit that you might. She'll probably end up being more successful, at which point I wouldn't be "providing" for her anyway. Such outdated thinking. We're partners, and we'd make our way regardless.

No you don't, but it's okay. I appreciate the faux sincerity. It's more an example of people being forced into a situation because of broken systems. As Eomer said, I'd be better served in a Canadian/British/French system, because a lot of these problems could be nipped in the bud. I have insurance for me, but cannot afford to add her to my plan. But obviously it's MY fault that my two jobs refuse to offer me the hours that would force them to give me benefits. I mean, I could just not work there... and work...where else? Oh yeah, that's right. Some states aren't doing so well, and some cities are doing even worse. Jobs are NOT plentiful here. And those jobs that do open up regularly have THOUSANDS of applicants, many much more qualified than me (Ph. D's and the like, desperate for work).

Actually, it will. Most contracts provide for 70-90% of your healthcare costs paid for by the employer, and the fact that I'd make 3-5x the average Chinese salary will cover the rest.

I think you may be missing background into this fight. Grobbee has an ESL teaching degree to go teach Chinese people english because he loves communisits and hates America. Unfortunatley he got caught up in some retarded "I should breed!" stupidity.
|
Well, I want to empower people to better themselves and their communities, and teaching English is one of those ways. I also am Communist by philosophy, which China (loosely) adheres to. Truth be told, I'll probably end up in Europe somewhere, where a nice compromise can be found between the two extremes.
As to "breeding," yes, we're having kids. Sorry that we're not nihilistic like many here are; we realize that children being born into comfortable, middle-class life is a rare luxury around the world, and as far as the human race goes, we're hardier than that. We're not doing our children a disservice by having them when it's not "perfect."

No one could give a fuck if Grobbee got his degree and shipped out. Some just don't appreciate him dragging a child into this.

Sorry that I didn't follow your "Rules to Childbirth." Send me a copy.

What do you mean? I'm trying to survive, man. I've got contacts already in China, and we're leaving in January. Thanks for the offer

178$ a month, with 24$ in prescriptions, minimum FOR JUST ME. I make (depending on the new job's hours) anywhere from $1260 a month (minimum net) with no employer-offered insurance, to $1960 (maximum net) a month WITH employer-offered insurance. If I added my wife to my plan, it'd be $400+ dollars. Can people afford that at the poverty line? Because I make UNDER the poverty line as it stands right now.
Hint: I'm probably eligible for Medicaid myself right now, but I'm not on it.
