I also use Avast, and experienced the same issue with version 2.0. It wasn't a virus though. The Curse Client Updater (formerly named Updater.exe), was generating a false positive for a virus, due to the compression we use (LZMA). Version 3.0 does not emit this behavior.
I would also like to add that at no point has the Curse Client distributed a virus. Nearly 1.2 million people have installed the Curse Client. If it was distributing a virus, the outcry would be insane.
