Any magic that the VMAs once had was thrown out the window. Last night's "show" wasn't even worth talking about. When you take a "live" show, cut it up into 5 minute chunks, script out every second of each 5 minutes, mix in 15 minutes of commercials after each 5 minute chunk, show the same 10 celebrities over and over and over and over and over and over (how often do we need to see Eminem, Justin, and 50cent, not to mention Timbaland walking up on stage and standing behind the winner for every award)...

Chris Rock was funny...a couple times. The rest of the time you could tell he didn't rehearse his jokes enough. His timing and delivery were horrible...but it was in line with everyone else's performances.

The problem with scripting every second of a live awards show like VMAs is that no one can spend enough time rehearsing and practicing their material to make it work. You NEED to mix in some improv...some room for performers to perform. You could actually hear the MTV producers in everyone's ear, telling them that their was only 20 seconds left to get the last 1 minute of jokes out.

Metallica confirmed it at the end of the show when they were interviewed about their little medley: "We had a lot of songs we wanted to play, but had to whittle it down to 90 seconds" 90 fucking seconds for a "20 years of MTV music" medley by Metallica?!? That's fucking horrible. Why even do it if you're only giving 90 seconds?

Worst awards show ever. Fuck you MTV.
