Not only do Republicans use some bullshit common sense stances for their platform, that but they use racist techniques to try to polarize the electorate to their side. The Southern Strategy is alive and well in the Republican party.
As homework take your so called party platform issues and think if anyone would be on the other side of those issues outside of the abortion debate. |
Who wants to pay more taxes? Nobody wants to pay any taxes. However, there's a huge portion of this country that is always willing to make other people (usually richer people because "they can afford it") pay more taxes. The other side of this question is "Who wants government to provide more services?" which is followed by "Who wants to pay for those services?" which leads to my first that huge portion I already talked about, which pretty much answers that question.
Who wants gay marriage? Gay people? The inclusion of homosexual relationships in the domain of marriage is an "equality" issue. People who define themselves and others by their relationships and believe that all people should be equal support gay marriage. This includes a lot of people...a majority in many areas. It's such a large group that your question just shows me your blindness.
Who wants more government entitlement programs? Who wants more government spending in general People who think they're entitled to get what other people already have? People who think the government could be formed into something that would make everyone's lives better? This is the same group of people as my answer to the first question, and very much related to the "equality" group of the second question. They don't trust people, in a general sense, and believe the government exists to make people do the right thing. In the case of this question, government exists to facilitate charitable giving by those who wouldn't otherwise give to charity. There are also Robin Hood types in this group that believe the government exists as a check to wealth disparities.
Who the hell wants to take away people's guns or right to religion? Ummm...Democrats and militant atheists? I consider not allowing public school teachers to wear crosses around their necks to be taking away "right to religion", so maybe I'm not the one to answer this question. Actually, I'm wondering, after spending time on this message board, why you even have to ask? Half the people posting here would love to take away guns and see religion wiped out.
As for your cry of racism, I'd like to see some evidence before replying. I'm looking for examples, but can't really find any. The latest versions of Republican Southern Strategy from that Wiki basically consist of Federalist speeches (giving more power to state and local beauracracies) being construed as racist. That was Reagan and Elder Bush.
