I'm pretty much like you in this regard. Also, I share a number of your religious beliefs. Put those assets together and I would be surprised if I don't know the Bible as well as you, having read it multiple times, back to front.
Unlike you, I haven't been inside a church building for the best part of two decades. There's a reason for that. I believe in the Bible, I believe in Jesus, but I have zero belief in the vast majority of people who call themselves 'Christians'.
Jesus reserved his harshest criticism for the Pharisees and Saducees. The self-righteous, religious people who sought to oversee and look down on the common people. Pretty much you, two thousand years ago. You probably think you suffer 'persecution' due to believing in and stating the truth. Has it occurred to you that most of the 'persecution' may be because of the way you promote your beliefs and your sanctimonious, self-righteous attitude, rather than the truths you seek to communicate ?
Like two thousand years ago, if Jesus was here today he wouldn't walk around the cities accusing the regular folks on the streets, he would have the most bitter criticism for the self righteous, religious folk.
I agree with the folk who have shown disgust at the evil that so called 'religion' causes - the people who invoke violence in the name of religion. These people certainly have zero to do with Christianity. The far more incidious misuse of Christianity is found amongst the masses of the self righteous.
