Not HP, the proc would refill your mana pool to full. Mental Corruption in its original form was supposed to steal 50 or 100 mana from a mob and return it to you, but it was of such limited use that it was ignored. So they decided to change it to 100 HP from the mob and 100 mana returned to you, but they decide that this was too powerful and decided to change it to 50/50.
But when it was first changed, it would steal 50 HP when it proc'ed, and filled your mana pool to full. It made soloing a snap because the spell has a good proc rate. With a DEX of ~130 my level 52 SK could get 1-3 procs per fight. So you could go all out with lifetaps and spears as you fear-kited mobs, knowing that you'd be FM as soon as it proc'ed.
