Other than VP it's the most prestigious position, probably better than Senator, and offers the most independence of any Cabinet position. If they are going in that direction it will probably not be announced until october.. Right now theres too much Palin craze for it to give a significant bump, they are probably waiting for that ship to die down and then get the bump that Hilary as Secretary of State would give.
