I read "Stealing Light" by Gary Gibson while travelling the skies. Sloppy ending and two dimensional characters made it annoying, with a lot of interesting characters/races brought up but not explored while he tried to play space opera. Interesting premise though.
Evidence of a sloppy rushed ending is this quote from near the end of the book:
Person1 reached out almost lovingly and cradled the surprised man's face in his hands.
'I hope it is Person2. But it may not be.'
He broke Person2's neck with a sudden, swift twist. Person2 didn't even have time to look surprised.
