anyways, my tale:
Met this girl in the air force, dated for a few months, then we moved in together and were talking marriage. I fell in love with her very quickly and was blissfully unaware of what was going on when I was not around. She goes on temporary duty to south america for 180 days, and while she is gone I end up being deployed to Ft. Bragg on TDY orders for a few months myself.
Being in communications for SOUTHCOM HQ we had access to all of the circuits and were able to talk to people just about everywhere in the western hemisphere, and her and i were able to talk for a few minutes about once a week. After a few weeks she's 'not available', and I don't hear from her again until I get a letter about a month later. She had 'met' another guy and when they get back she is moving in with him and getting married. Obviously, I'm not in any position to find out any more info being several thousand miles away and deployed, so being extremely pissed off and hurt I don't even respond to the letter. I guess being TDY was a blessing at the time, as i was able to stay drunk or at work 100% of the time while I was getting myself together.
Forward a few months I'm in our apartment having gotten home, and while she is still deployed, I start packing her shit up so when she's back I don't have to even see her other than for her to get her shit out of the place. I find a stack of photos of her and her 'spiteful and angry ex" (her words), and a few letters he has written her over the course of the previous year. During the entire time we were in a relationship, she had still been involved with this guy and talking with him about them getting married and having kids etc. In fact one trip she had taken "to her parents' was actually a weekend long fuck-fest with him that they actually planned out together how she was going to lie to me to cover it up. He was stationed at the same base as we were, and later on I found out he had been down in South America TDY at the same location as her. I wont lie, my world was crushed that day. It was a long, long time before I trusted anyone again.
Thankfully the apartment was in my name (she had moved out of hers about six months before) so all i had to tell her was get her shit out when she showed up, and I had already packed it all up for her to limit the time I'd have to deal with her. I also made sure the stack of photos/letters was the first thing she saw. The look on her face when she realized I knew far more at this point than she could have imagined was my only consolation. I heard a year or two later they ended up divorced after he broke her arm during an argument. Sucks to be her, I guess. No photos of her or her busted arm to post, sorry!
Coincidentally, after that same TDY a buddy of mine got back to his house with flowers to find his wife had left him as well. When he walked in the house, she'd been gone a week already, left him with a note on the kitchen table and an empty bank account.
