I've found in my (limited) experience that there's two types of colognes - generic male ones, which smell good on everyone, and more specific ones.

For my generic male one, Acqua di Gio is pretty good. Not overpowering and you smell fresh.

Girlfriend convinced me to buy Kenneth Cole Thermal Reaction because she loved the smell of the tester, after both 5 minutes and 5 hours. Pity it's a limited release though, I should probably buy another bottle before it's all sold out... Really depends on your skin chemistry though - i've been perfume shopping with a girl and one of them mixed with her skin to make vomit smell.
