I played through both Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI at the time of their release and I have absolutely no recollection of CT's music. So I went and checked youtube to listen to these masterpieces I had forgotten. While I was there I also gave a listen to some FFVI tracks, along with Actraiser 2 and Castlevania IV. Result: while pleasant and benefiting from a nice set of midi instruments, CT's music are nothing special.

I can understand your attachment if listening to CT's tracks summons the emotions you had when playing the game, but they cannot be compared to something as ambitious and ample as Dancing Mad, the suite that accompanies the multi-part end battle of FFVI. In fact, FFVI has a relationship with music that has probably no equivalent in video games. In what other game can one find two monumental musical sequences (three if you add the final medley)? We are talking here music made out of multiple movements used for sequences that last more than 15 minutes!
