A good a steady way to accumulate gear with little effort is just doing daily heroic. Assuming you're neither a tank or a healer, you should have no problem finding a group even if your gear is really bad. As a healer, you might manage depending on group setup and tank gear, as a tank you pretty much do need decent tanking gear for heroics, but decent varies with the class, decent for a druid involves just buying some random crafted crap, and doing a few lvl 70 quests in shadowmoon, while it's a tad bit more annoying on a warrior to gear for prot tanking efficiently.
Assuming you get 3badges from the heroic, plus erm, it was 2 right for the daily, so that's 5badges a day, in about 1hour, sometimes 1hour30. 35badges a week, a pretty decent number in my opinion. Gets you a new item every week/couple weeks.
You can easily run two of the 4 "easy" heroics in less than 3hours too, if the group somewhat sticks around. SP and UB are very good for that, since you just go back to entrance and enter the other dungeon. Ramparts and BF isn't bad, but BF is on my "medium" difficulty list. The last easy one is obviously mech, but it's far from everything else.
Heroics can also have the side benefit, depending on your class, of getting you decent epics with reputation. Even to this day, CE has some awesome druid rewards, both feral(the mace) and resto(the offhand). I think the mace from shatar is also pretty good. Lower city mace is awesome for dps caster, sadly lower city rep is somewhat a bitch in my opinion. Then there's the necessary head enchants, and recipes if you're JC or enchanter(healing and spelldmg ring enchants).
That's the great thing about heroics, the fact that when you run one, you gain rep for medium term items, a chance at random drops that you might find useful(some trinkets aren't bad, and some of the epics aren't bad if the char is relatively new) and badges for long term epics which also are fucking awesome due to being updated every now and then. The issue being, if you only want a specific item out of all those, it forces you into an insane and boring grind. Especially when you can only run the instance once a day.
Still much better than the Cenarion abortion in Silithus. I'm glad I never had to grind the rep on any of my char back then. I did have to farm the stupid pages though, for money, good old naxx days, spending 50g a night on consumables and repairs.
