I still see a future where large community events can happen that influence the direction of the gaming world that don't suck.
For example one of my ideas involve revitalizing the Battletech Universe.
Reintroduce the universe to the television public through miniseries that gives a rundown of the war 3039 and the Clan Invasion. During that time reintroduce a new series of battletech related games with official online tournaments.
Then when the Clan Invasion reaches its climax (the Battle of Tukkayid) you integrate the gaming sphere with the television sphere.
Before that battle is aired on TV hold a tournament where the best players face off as Comstar and the clans and whoever wins dictates who actually wins at Tukkayid. From that point forward every tournament will determine the outcome of battles that are planned to happen by the writers and the writers will have write their stories to reflect how the characters would be affected by the losses and wins incurred.
