| Someone is bitter. Your logic is also alarmingly shallow.
There is no reason for a wealthy person to have to donate everything in order to not be hypocritical in asking others for assistance. If our society enforced that notion then no one would be willing to ask others to help those in need because they would then be criticized for not donating enough. Is it wrong for someone to promote the importance of volunteer work when they only volunteer 3 hours a week and watch TV for 20 hours a week after work? Is it wrong for a semi-annual blood donor to promote blood donation because they do not donate on a weekly basis?
Besides, part of the great thing about charity is the thought that it is the people as a whole coming together to help another. Celebrities are a great way to draw attention to charity because presumably they are trustworthy. It is much healthier for society as a whole to promote many people donating something to charity rather than guilting a few into donating all non-essentials. |
