Well, perhaps because DAoC was shit at release and completely incapable of supporting RvR when it was first happening. This was compounded by massive balance fuck-ups, massive counter-balancing nerfs/fixes and the whole years of buff-botted eight-man rape teams dominating thing. Throw in the later changes in atlantis and such and it was a very strange game in many ways.
Hey, I played on one of the best eight-man rape trains running and had a blast. Still, the system was all kinds of broken and a lot of people knew it.
