KI was actually extremely popular at my arcades up until people figured out how to play. Then it became a ghost town as it wasn't a balanced fighter.
As a casual game, though, where people don't progress up the learning curve and only fight similarly skilled players, it was fun.
In KI's defense, I guess, I still think the reason fighting games aren't as popular as they used to be (after the death of the Arcades, anyways), is that they're too complicated. Many times a person won't know why they lost to a skilled VF or Tekken or SF player and that doesn't really encourage them to try again.
I don't blame them, either. Saw a guy on VF 5 on X-Box Live the other day who was like 40 wins and over 500 losses. He was the exception to most people quitting after that amount of crushing.
