Just a nitpick on that - it might seem that way at first glance, but Ned was not screwed by being honorable, he was royally screwed every time he failed in his honor/duty due to compassion.
Warning Cersei because he thought Robert would kill her children.
Then betraying his honor by scheming with littlefinger, allowing his betrayl.
Then lying to Robert about his children to not piss him off while dying.
Confessing because of threats to his children.
