Did you read the patch notes? They acknowledged that specific crash but felt the other optimizations were worth pushing the patch through. Yah it sucks but they at least said it would happen.

"The client will give assert error whenever you open up the Options Menu (F10/Esc). This should only happen the first time the menu is accessed per playsession."
