every actor with an extensive library has had his share of clunkers. I also find it funny that so many here point to Legend as a great Cruise movie.

He did everything in his power to keep that movie from getting released; he was embarrassed by that flick.
Remember when people actually bought Cd's? A little bit before then they also bought Tapes and records, and even more oddly they also bought soundtracks to movies.

Veiled sarcasm aside one thing I will always remember about going through peoples record collections in the late 80's was outside of the token Michael Jacksons thriller and a few other must have albums two soundtracks people always had were the Cocktail Soundtrack and the Top Gun Soundtrack.

EVERYBODY had the cocktail soundtrack. Every time I ever hear any song from that soundtrack I immediately think of that movie and I can't even remember what it was about, but whatever. Point is before Tom Cruise was even crazy and before he was even a huge star the guy was a license to print money. You made money off his movie and you made money off the soundtrack and you just made money hand over fist.

By the time the 90's hit his fame and power reached retarded levels.

I have had this discussion before about him in this very forum, love him or hate him the guy is our Generations Movie Star he epitomizes everything about that statement, and manages to do so while also bringing modern things to it like divorces and crazy fanatical behavior.

For all his crazy he has had a remarkable career and save a few roles has rarely gone far outside the box of playing his crazy self.

I don't really care what the guy does in his spare time, truth is you can bank on his movies, and while I don't love them all I can say that I haven't walked out of a TC movie disappointed and wanting my money back, sure some were forgettable to me when I was done, but at least I didn't feel like my time was wasted. There is a certain expectation that comes with having Tom Cruise in a movie and that expectation has never failed to be fulfilled in my mind.

I will say that his recent group of films have been largely forgettable. War of the Worlds espcailly and I wasn't terribly fond of MI3 either, and I would think his star is almost falling. Like I said above, I didn't feel like I was robbed but his movies are starting to lose the grandness that was a Tom Cruise movie in the 90's. Did enjoy his performance of Vincent in Collateral though, but I think that was because Foxx's character just played off him so well.

And you know, if nothing else the guy got nominated for an Oscar in the same movie he managed to utter the brilliant line : "Respect the cock" Thats got to be worth something.

It almost removes some levels of crazy.
