I haven't read her thesis but this kind of thing is commonly done in graduate schools. If I read you right her thesis was about well educated blacks beginning to identify more with whites over their own race. I can understand why that might disappoint her. Maybe she would have preferred to see that well educated blacks have no preference either way? Or certainly that they not turn their backs on other black people.

And how do you know her opinions haven't changed or evolved over time--whatever they once were? I don't know the date of the thesis, but given her age I would think it was written 20 or more years ago. I don't know anyone who hasn't changed/evolved from their college/grad/law school days.
