I learned not to make friends in MMO's during EQ... I get a guild and make friendly acquaintances, but there hasn't been a person in 3 years that I would log on and automatically start talking to/grouping with. With friends comes more responsibility to do things that I may not want to do at the time. Obligation to help or give free things or spend time. Just not going to happen any more.

edit: And you're right. MMO's have become far less appealing to me. But I've always attributed that more to MMO's hitting the mainstream population than anything else.
